Nursery School in the Foni Bintang Karanai of the West Coast Region,
was Saturday officially inaugurated.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yunusa Gibba, the headteacher of the school, told the gathering that their sponsors (the Social Project of The Gambia) has been assisting the school since 2010. He explained that the assistance is in form of building toilets and providing food for the students, among others. He thanked their sponsors for their commitment to the development of the school. Marika Bjick, president of the German Association, said they are complementing government's efforts in ensuring that education is accessible to all, adding that her association is ready to help the school by sponsoring the construction of the school fence, and providing salary for one of the teachers. Speaking on behalf of the National Assembly Education Select Committee, Honourable Borry S. Colley, the National Assembly member for Foni Jarrol Constituency, thanked the sponsors for complementing government's efforts and further advised the communities of Siwol and Tamba Kunda to take good care of the school. Hon. Colley described Karafa Gibba as an illustrous son of the country, who is always ready to contribute his quota in national development. For his part, the governor of West Coast Region, Alhaji Lamin Sanneh, spoke on the importance of early childhood education in the promotion of quality education in the country. He described Yunusa Gibba as a very hardworking Gambian and further encouraged the elders to give support to the school. Other speakers included Karafa Gibba, a friend to the sponsors, Hamidou Sowe , councilor of Foni Bondali Ward and Adama Badjie, who spoke on behalf of the village women. Author: by Fatou Sowe |
